''Einige Bemerkungen zu Distributionentheorie von L. Schwartz''
Abstract: Auf zwei grundlegende Aspekte der Distributionentheorie will
ich näher eingehen:
(a) Vervollständigung der klassischen Analysis ("Jede konvergente Reihe
Differential-gleichungen.
(a) und (b) werden an Hand der 2 Arbeiten “Series the convergence of
which should be interpreted in the sense
of L. Schwartz's distributions" (SIAM Review 37(1995), 428{435), “The
fundamental matrix of the system of linear
elastodynamics in hexagonal media. Solution to the problem of conical
refraction."
(IMA Journ. Appl. Maths. 73(2008), 412{447), exemplarisch besprochen.

„On a random graph evolving by degrees“
Abstract: We consider a random (multi)graph growth process {G(m)} on a vertex set [n],
which is a special case of a more general process proposed by Laci Lovasz in 2002. G(0) is empty,
and G(m+1) is obtained from G(m) by inserting a new edge e at random. Specifically, the conditional
probability that e joins two currently disjoint vertices, i and j, is proportional to (d(i)+a)(d(j)+a),
where d(i), d(j) are the degrees of i,j in G(m), and a is a fixed parameter. The limiting case a=infinity
is the Erdos-Renyi graph process. We show that whp G(m) contains a unique giant component
iff c: = 2m/n > c(a)=a/(a+1), and the size of this giant is asymptotic to n[1-(a+c*)^a/(a+c)^a], where c* < c(a) is
the root of c/(a+c)^{2+a}=c*/(a+c*)^{2+a}. We prove that the width of the phase transition window is of
order n^{-1/3}. For the multigraph version, {MG(m)}, we show that MG(m) is connected whp
iff m >> m(n):=n^{1+1/a} and we conjecture that, for a > 1, m(n) is the threshold for connectedness of G(m) itself.

„Rational points on elliptic curves and right triangles“
Abstract: Rational points on elliptic curves play a very important role in number theory and arithmetic
algebraic geometry. They lead us immediately to a variety of difficult results and conjectures, for example,
the modularity theorem of Breuil-Conrad-Diamond-Taylor-Wiles and the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture.
This may not sound like an elementary talk. But fortunately, we can introduce these results in a very elementary way,
by considering an old question on rational right triangles: which positive integers can be the area of a right triangle
with rational sides ?

Noch eine allgemeine Information:Es wird (von Prof. Feichtinger)
empfohlen, den Austrian Talk-Server f. Mathematik als Bookmark auf der
privaten Homepage einzurichten, und in der laufenden Probephase
eventuelle Probleme oder Maengel an Herrn Dr. Mayer (man.mayer at aon.at
<mailto:man.mayer at aon.at>) zu melden. Mittelfristig sollte der
Talk-Server die Zentrale Informationsquelle sind, wo alle math. Events
Oesterreichs laufend aktuell und uebersichtlich aufgelistet zu finden sind.
