The Spezialforschungsbereich (SFB) 'Language Between Redundancy and Deficiency' is seeking to hire an administrative post-doc at the University of Graz, starting in March 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Position: full time post-doc position (40h/week)
Location: Graz (Austria)
Salary per year: ca. 76.000 EUR (may vary depending on experience)
Duration: 4 years


Details:
The newly funded Spezialforschungsbereich (SFB) 'Language Between Redundancy and Deficiency' is seeking to hire a post-doc at the University of Graz, starting in March 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. The SFB consists of 8 subprojects and an administrative subproject in the areas of syntax, morphology and semantics, investigating the interface of the symbolic system of grammar and the stochastic cognitive system. The focus of the first four years will be on pronouns, their structure, feature specification and interpretation. The SFB involves PIs from Departments of Linguistics, German Studies, Romance Studies and Slavic Studies from the Universities of Graz, Vienna and Salzburg.


Tasks:

  *   Ensuring smooth administrative processes, such as finances, controlling, archiving, communication, travel etc.
  *   Organizing events including workshops, retreats, internal meetings of the SFB, guest cooperation partner visits.
  *   Administrative support in employment processes, delegation of cross-subproject tasks, including administrative help for existing SFB staff.
  *   Ensuring open access availability for SFB publications and data.
  *   Coordinating and arranging consultations related to establishing and maintaining a gender equitable work environment.
  *   Facilitating the SFB's public relations efforts by developing press releases, and by creating and supervising the SFB website and social media appearances.
  *   Acting as a central anchor for data-management related issues including central data-storage and organization of access to data across subprojects.
  *   Conducting an internal review of planned experiments in order to maximize synergy, e.g., by merging several empirical studies into one larger study or including questions of one study as distractors for another.
  *   Coordinating IT and technical support for empirical studies within the SFB. Providing statistical support for empirical studies.
  *   Contributing to the synthesis of an overall theory of redundancy and deficiency in language.
  *   In the remaining time, the position holder will also have the opportunity to conduct active research on SFB-related topics.

The administrative subproject combines scientific support for the SFB as a whole with administrative support. We are looking for a postdoc researcher who combines a strong scientific background, especially in the domain of experimental methods and statistics, with strong administrative skills and who potentially aspires for a career in research management.
Requirements:

  *   Excellent command of German and English
  *   Good knowledge (or the ability to quickly acquire good knowledge) of the Austrian educational system and legal framework of the FWF is mandatory.
  *   Good knowledge of data analysis, data-management, statistics, scientific methodology.
  *   A PhD is required for this position, a PhD in linguistics is preferable but not mandatory.
