Some interesting reading on Akamai's technology here:

65,000 servers. And they claim to handle 15-20% of the Internet's 
traffic on a daily basis. I suspect that a lot of these servers would 
use things like AnyCast to provide many hosts for a single IP address 
and you get one "near" to you that is up and running. So any failures 
should not bother the end users.

Anyway, I guess this has drifted far enough away from the topic of pca :)
