Hi Pierre-Yves,

These patches are all Vintage Solaris 8 patches, which require a Vintage Solaris 8 support contract.

Solaris 8 entered Vintage Phase 2 (End-Of-Service-Life), as of April 1st 2009.
For further information, please check out the following links:
* http://www.sun.com/service/eosl/solaris/solaris8eosl.pdf
* http://www.sun.com/service/eosl/Solaris8.html

So, what does this mean for pca users patching Solaris 8 systems?
* If you have a standard Solaris 8 support contract you will continue to have access to Solaris 8 OS patches released before April 1st 2009.
   You will also still be able to access the Solaris 8 Recommended & Sun Alert Patch Clusters from the recently revamped Patch Clusters & Bundles page at http://sunsolve.sun.com/show.do?target=patches/patch-access.
   (Please note that the contents of these clusters will no longer be updated, as part of the End-Of-Service-Life program.)

* If you wish to have access to Solaris 8 patches released after April 1st 2009 you must purchase a Vintage Solaris 8 support contract.
   Further information on how to purchase Vintage Solaris 8 support is available from your local Sun Sales Representative or Sun Authorized Partners (see bottom of http://www.sun.com/service/eosl/Solaris8.html).
  * If you are considering transitioning from Solaris 8 to a later release of Solaris the information at http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/support/sol8.xml may be helpful.

How about the information in patchdiag.xref; how will that be affected?
Sun will continue to update the metadata in the patchdiag.xref file for Solaris 8 patches, including adding new patches as they are released.
Please be aware however that without a Vintage Solaris 8 contract you will be unable to download such patches, even if they fix (or accumulate a fix for) a security issue.

Patches which address issues published in a Sun Alert prior to April 1st 2009, will be treated as exceptions to Vintage Solaris 8.
Such patches will be made freely available if they contain a new security fix, or alternatively require a standard Solaris 8 support contract to access.
In addition the Solaris 8 Recommended & Sun Alert clusters will be updated to include these patches.

The following is a list of all Vintage Solaris 8 patches released to date:

Hi all,

I am having troubles with 5 solaris8 patchs and was wondering if you could help me.
bash-2.03#  /usr/sbin/pca -l
Using /tmp/patchdiag.xref from Jun/12/09
Host: vlbuat10 (SunOS 5.8/Generic_117350-62/sparc/sun4u)
Root: /
List: missing (5/242)

Patch IR CR RSB Age Synopsis
------ -- - -- --- --- -------------------------------------------------------
108434 24 < 25 ---  32 SunOS 5.8: 32-Bit Shared library patch for C++
108435 24 < 25 ---  32 SunOS 5.8: 64-Bit Shared library patch for C++
127721 -- < 01 ---  54 SunOS 5.8: kernel patch
128624 11 < 12 -S-  70 SunOS 5.8: LDAP2 client, libc, libthread and libnsl libraries patc
140841 -- < 01 -S-  54 SunOS 5.8: gssd patch

If I try to install them, I get the following messages
Failed
Failed (no Sun Online Account data)
Failed (patch not found)

I checked the up-to-date patchdiag.xref and these 5 patchs still belong to it.

If I log to sunsolve I can see them but I'm not able to download them.....my sun account works fine for every other patch, no problem on this side...

What do you think ? Bad patchs ? Sunsolve bug ? ??
Thank you !

Pierre-Yves
