Are these really tar files? From Sun you would have got zip (or jar)
files. Did the files get renamed at some point or did you unzip them and
tar them up (if so, why)? Can you show us output of "file 112874-44.tar"?

The command is fine. You can add --nocheckxref to make pca not try to
get a more recent copy of the xref file and to get rid of these:

> Trying http://sunsolve.sun.com/patchdiag.xref (1/1)
> Failed
Looking at:
> Installing 112874-44 (1/22)
> Untarring patch
> Failed
I'm pretty sure that the files you have are not really tar files.
