[pca] 119788-09

I'm really confused. I cannot even get smpatch to work. It keeps looking
for /var/sadm/pkg or /var/sadm/patch, and neither directory exists on
this server. All of our patches are in the /apps directory -
/apps/sadm/pkg and /apps/sadm/patch. I've tried to manually download
119788-09.jar and installing it that way, putting the file first in
/var/sadm/spool - then in /apps/sadm/spool. Using smpatch, I get a
message stating that 121118-08 is not installed. So, I've downloaded
that patch and did the same and got another message, saying I needed
121453-02. So I downloaded that patch and did the same and got another
message, stating I needed 119574-02 and 119254-06. I've downloaded both
of these and now smpatch tells me that 119574-02 is already installed
and 119254-06 is obsolete by a currently installed 119254-42. I did try
creating a soft link to point to the appropriate directory to see if
that would help (pointing to the /apps directory), but I'm still getting
error. I've even tried manually running patchadd -

# patchadd -M /apps/sadm/spool 119788-09
Validating patches...

Loading patches installed on the system...

Directory is expected, found link - /var/sadm/pkg.

# patchadd -M /apps/sadm/pkg 119788-09

# patchadd /apps/sadm/spool/119788-09

UGH! I'm not sure what to do now. And I don't understand why all of the
other patches installed fine. Any advice and/or guidance would greatly
be appreciated! Thanks!

I haven't seen that error before. It's not from the prepatch script in
this patch, but from patchadd itself (/usr/lib/patch/pdo, actually).

Searching for what it could mean I found e.g.:

http://osdir.com/ml/os.solaris.opensolaris.zones/2006-12/msg00039.html

Are you using Solaris Zones on the affected system? Are you installing
in single-user or multi-user mode? Or is /var/sadm/pkg otherwise
unusual, like a symbolic link, mounted via NFS or similar?

It's strange that all the other patches installed fine, as the error
seems more like a general issue to me.

Were there kernel patches installed during the first pca run, and if so,

did you reboot already?

Martin.
