[pca] PCA and M5000

Hi Martin, thanks for the response!

Right after I patch the server and initiate a "init 6", the server starts the shutdown the procedure. The screen responds to the point where it states xx services stopping. One of the next lines on the console "should" state going down on signal 15, but it never comes across the screen, it appears to be hanging on shutting down the services..... It is consistent in its behavior, hang every time after the patches applied.

I agree with another thread I saw from Jan with a T5220. The problem must exist with a patch outside of the cluster. If I apply the recommended cluster and the J2SE cluster I do not have the same issues with the reboot.

I have also tried the PCA on a old 280 but does not have the same issue, reboots fine after patching.

Not to sure where to go with this one. Tracking down one patch out of 200 that were installed could take days. Going to Sun using a "unsupported" tool may be just as frustrating..

Any thoughts????

Thanks for you time!

It would be interesting to know where it really hangs. Do you get
console output, and if so, what's the last thing it does show? Did it
hang just once, or everytime that you install patches? What if you
reboot without installing patches? Maybe it's not even patch related.

I'm pretty sure it will be the same. At the end, installing patches with
pca and via the cluster is the same thing - both use the Solaris
patchadd command to install a list of patches.

Some of the bigger machines can take a lot of time for a cold reboot
(testing hardware etc. in OBP), but that shouldn't be the case here.
Personally, I've patched many Solaris 10 U4 machines, and never
experienced a hang during shutdown.

Martin.
