Results of the Recent Excavations


In this double lecture, recent results of work by a team of the UCL (Belgium) both on Crete at Sissi, on the Kephali, and on Cyprus, at Pyla-Kokkinokremos, are presented.
The sites differ considerably in their occupation since Sissi has a cemetery, a settlement and a monumental central building and was occupied for a long period,
between c. 2600 BC and 1200 BC, while Pyla has thus far only revealed settlement remains and was only occupied for a short period late in the 13th and early in the 12th c. BC.
But both are coastal settlements, controlling valuable maritime and road networks in their respective islands and their partial simultaneous occupation also allows to draw some comparisons.
