<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:13.0pt">In this double lecture, recent results of work by a team of the UCL (Belgium) both on Crete at Sissi, on the Kephali, and on Cyprus, at Pyla-Kokkinokremos, are presented.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:13.0pt">The sites differ considerably in their occupation since Sissi has a cemetery, a settlement and a monumental central building and was occupied for a long period,<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:13.0pt">between c. 2600 BC and 1200 BC, while Pyla has thus far only revealed settlement remains and was only occupied for a short period late in the 13<sup>th</sup> and early in the 12<sup>th</sup> c.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:13.0pt">But both are coastal settlements, controlling valuable maritime and road networks in their respective islands and their partial simultaneous occupation also allows to draw some comparisons. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
