[DissKoll] DissKoll, 5th Anniversary

Dear visitors of the DissKoll (Dissertantenkolloquium),

On January 11, 2009, the DissKoll will have its fifth talk in fall 2009 and
celebrates its 5th anniversary. Therefore we will have a talk given by
Alexander Bihlo (University of Vienna), who will talk about "*Structure
preserving finite-mode models*", and we will together with some Oldies
celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Disskoll where we will present some
Info about the history and future outlook of the DissKoll.

*Structure preserving finite-mode models*

Abstract:
A typical problem with the conventional Galerkin approach for the
construction of finite-mode models is to keep structural properties
untouched in the process of discretization. We present the relevant
mathematical structures (e.g. Hamiltonian formulation) of selected equations
of fluid mechanics and describe how they behave under transition from an
infinite-dimensional phase space to a finite-dimensional one. Selected
finite-mode models preserving these structures are reviewed and their
potential usefullness is discussed.

Am Montag den 11. Januar 2010 findet der fünfte Vortrag im Rahmen des
DissKoll in diesem Semester statt, sowie feiert das Dissertantenkolloquium
sein fünfjähriges Bestehen, wobei ein Talk von Alexander Bihlo geplant ist
und vorher eine kurze Einführung in die Geschichte und die Zukunft des
DissKolls gegeben wird.
