1) there will be a talk tomorrow, monday 22 july, 12h00 - 12h30,
in the WPI SeminarRoom in the 8th floor of Fak.Math at OMP1 :

Speaker : Prof. Hao Wu (Tsinghua Univ.)
Title: "The focus computing method "
Abstract: In this study, we propose a novel direct numerical method 
with O(λ^{−d/2}−1) computational cost to simulate the wave equation in 
the seismic inverse problem. It based on the fact that the computation 
of the entire wave filed may not be necessary here. Thus, we only need 
to evaluate the wave equation around the waveform of interest and the 
computational cost is significantly saved here. 

2) the 2 weeks from mon, 29 july - fri 9 Aug, the WPI will host the
"12th Plasma Kinetics Working Group Meeting", 
organized by Alex Schekochihin (U. Oxford) with Matthew Kunz (Princeton), Nuno Loureiro (MIT) and Felix Parra (Oxford)

3) the 2 days thu+fri 1+2 Aug, the WPI will host the 
"5th workshop on "Mathematical models in cancer",
Organized by Michael Bergmann (MedUni Wien), Marie Doumic Jauffret (INRIA Paris), Doron Levy (U. Maryland & NCI) and myself.
 
Collegues from math+CS+medicine will present and discuss new developments in our joint efforts to understand cancer and improve therapies.
