*PD Dr. rer.nat.habil. Radu Ioan BOT (Univ. Wien): "Convex optimization 
from the perspective of maximal monotone operators**"*

/_Abstract:_//The topic of this talk is motivated by the fact that the 
solving of a primal-dual pair of convex optimization problems gives rise 
to the solving of monotone inclusion problems often involving mixtures 
of linearly composed, Lipschitzian and parallel-sum type monotone 
operators. After a brief excursion into the recent developments in the 
theory of maximal monotone operators, a primal-dual splitting algorithm 
which simultaneously solves a monotone inclusion problem and its 
Attouch-Théra-type dual inclusion problem is presented. The 
proposedscheme processes at each iteration the set-valued maximally 
monotone operators separately via their resolvents, while the 
single-valued operators are accessed via explicit forward steps. In this 
way it succeeds to overcome the shortcoming of classical splitting 
algorithms when dealing with monotone inclusion problems with intricate 
formulations. The iterative algorithm is used for solving 
nondifferentiable convex optimization problems arising from different 
real life applications./
