*Abstract:*

Heisuke Hironaka hat 1964 in einer bahnbrechenden, 200 Seiten langen 
Arbeit die Auflösung der Singularitäten von algebraischen Varietäten in 
Charakteristik Null bewiesen, eine Arbeit, von der Alexandre 
Grothendieck in seiner ICM Laudatio sagt: Le rapporteur avoue n'en avoir 
pas fait entièrement le tour.
In den letzten Jahren ist Hironaka zur Auflösung zurückgekehrt, diesmal 
zum noch immer ungelösten Fall positiver Charakteristik.__
