Prof. Bernard Teissier (Université Paris Denis-Diderot): “An heterodox 
approach to resolution of singularities“

Abstract:
The simplest mappings between affine spaces in algebraic geometry are 
those described in appropriate coordinates by monomials. I will discuss 
the possibility of resolving singularities of algebraic subvarieties of 
affine space by using only such mappings after an appropriate 
re-embedding in a larger affine space. The talk is intended to be 
accessible for non-experts.
