Abstract: Räuber-Beute-Modelle, Wachstumsprozesse und das SIR-Modell
Oberstufe.
aufbereitete biomathematische Modelle vorgestellt.

„A look on the Schroedinger Equation from a Wasserstein Geometry
perspective“
Abstract: In this talk we present some elements of a formal second order
geometric calculus on the Wasserstein space and apply this to a
particular Hamiltonian system which turns out to be equivalent to the
Schroedinger equation in 'real world' coordinates. As a result
Schroedinger's equation is written as Newton's law of motion of a system
driven by its Fisher information and an external field. The map beween
the two representations of the Schroedinger equation is a classical
('Madelung') transformation which actually provides an isomorphism from
the Riemannian symplectic form on the Wasserstein tangent bundle to the
standard symplectic structure of complex valued functions. We close with
a remark on potential applications in metric measure spaces.

„Embedding properties of Levi flat manifolds”
Abstract: In the talk, we discuss two kinds of problems related to the
embedding of Levi flat manifolds, i.e. manifolds carrying a foliation by
complex hypersurfaces. First we deal with the case of Levi flat
submanifolds of C^n which are "bounded in certain directions": under
this assumption, it can be proved that their foliation is trivial. Then,
we consider an abstract Levi flat manifold S whose foliation admits a
compact leaf C. Under suitable hypotheses on the holonomy of C, S does
not admit an embedding as a hypersurface of any complex manifold.

„Minimale asymmetrische Graphen”
minimale asymmetrische Graphen (d.h. solche, deren echte, nichttriviale
induzierte Teilgraphen saemtlich nichttriviale Automorphismen besitzen)
involutorischen Automorphismus zulassen. (Gemeinsame Arbeit mit Jarik
Nesetril und Jerome Gagnon.)

„Resolution of Singularities in Positive Characteristic: The State of
the Art“
Abstract: Last week there was a large symposium at RIMS, Kyoto, to
discuss the recently announced "breakthroughs" in the field. We shall
present an overview and comparison of the various approaches (work of
Hironaka, Kawanoue-Matsuki, Villamayor, Wlodarczyk), and make the point
on the possible "future" solution of this famous problem. The lecture is
adressed to a general audience and only requires the basics in algebraic
geometry.

„Monodromy of a class of logarithmic connections on an elliptic curve”
Abstract: The logarithmic connections studied are obtained as direct
images of regular connections on line bundles over genus-2 double covers
of the elliptic curve. We give an explicit parametrization of all such
connections, determine their monodromy, differential Galois group and
the underlying rank-2 vector bundle. The latter is described in terms of
elementary transforms and birational maps of ruled surfaces. The
question of its (semi)-stability is addressed.

„Similarity solutions and the occurrence of a ‘corridor’ in the wake of
a hump in subsonic flow”
Abstract: The steady laminar flow of a two-dimensional incompressible
boundary layer disturbed by a shallow three-dimensional hump is studied
by means of a three-dimensional extension of the triple-deck theory. The
most striking feature then is the emergence of a ‘corridor’ in the wake
of the hump, which stays at constant width downstream and within it the
boundary-layer displacement and skin-friction perturbation are much
greater than outside. An asymptotic analysis of the flow quantities far
downstream in this region then yields to similarity solutions of the
triple-deck flow as well as to a condition for the hump geometry for the
occurrence of the ‘corridor effect’.

„On the structure of the classical diffeomorphism groups”
Abstract: The group of volume preserving diffeomorphisms, the group of
symplectomorphisms and the group of contactomorphisms constitute the
classical groups of diffeomorphisms. The first homology groups of the
compactly supported identity components of the first two groups have
been computed by Thurston and Banyaga resp. in 1970s. The results and
the methods of their proofs are similar to each other.
In this talk I present a solution of the long-standing problem on the
algebraic structure of the contactomorphism group. Namely, I show that
the compactly supported identity component of it is perfect and simple
(if the underlying manifold is connected). In the proof, completely
different than those in the previous cases, I use well-known facts (a
fixed point theorem, the Lychagin chart) as well as some new ideas
(fragmentations of the second kind, new rolling-up operators).
Possible applications of the result are indicated. E.g. the result is
connected with the notion of the commutator length for the
contactomorphism group. In turn, in analogy to the symplectic case, the
commutator length may be related to some deep facts and problems in the
contact geometry.
