Dear all,
I wanted to let you know that we are planning another reading group on the topic of Affordances.
The format is a bit different this time: we will meet Monday to Thursday for three weeks, before noon.

            July 17 - August 3, 2023
            10:30-12:00 CET.

The room stays the same (3B at NIG); it will be also possible to attend online.
If you need a little bit of structure to your days now that the semester is over, you are welcome to attend!
Of course, you don't have to commit to participating in all sessions; please feel free to pick and choose when you'd like to join.

Format- and syllabus-wise:

- since the reading group is very intensive (almost every day), we will keep the readings short; as before, we will read mostly analytic philosophy and theoretical CogSci papers.

- I will try to make sure we will get a good overview of the topic and that in the end, our readings are comprehensive. I think the most important themes to discuss are: (1) the ontology of affordances, (2) their relationship to attention, intentionality and agency, (3) the social and normative aspect of affordances. That's more or less how the curriculum will be structured. The texts will be available soon.

- Some of the sessions (min. one a week) will be talks! We have planned to hear from some amazing researchers who are working in this field: Paulina Sliwa (Uni Wien), Manuel Heras-Escribano (University of Granada) and Zuzanna Rucinska (University of Antwerp). This will be a rare opportunity to hear about their latest research projects and give them feedback.

If you're interested, please let me know and I will add you to our mailing list*--or simply sign up on your own here: https://lists.univie.ac.at/mailman/listinfo/affordancelab).

Best,
Martyna Meyer
