Internet is not only becoming an indispensable part of people’s life, but also transforming the traditional business models and even the traditional business thinking with all the innovations made in the internet industry. China has witnessed the emergence of giant internet firms from its domestic market in the first decade of the 21st century, such as Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu, etc. Those firms have become very successful in beating powerful world leading counterparts in almost every area in their home market, which have created a unique business environment of China. However, they are also facing serious challenges and great opportunities after entering the 2nd decade of the new century with the advancement of mobile internet technologies. This lecture aims to provide the audience with a picture about Internet-based business development in China, with special focus on why China’s leading internet firms became successful and how their practices have been and are changing the business environment in China. It will also discuss why Chinese internet-based firms’ impacts have been confined within the country so far and how possibly they are going to become world leaders. It is hoped that the audience will have a clear understanding of the latest business changes in the business world in China.”
