SinoNet: Kultur der Kulturrevolution

Yesterday I saw the exhibition on the culture of the Cultural Revolution here in Vienna, lots of everyday culture, very interesting. Very nice tour we were given, by the curator hmself. Worth seeing, definitely. Quite big. Chilling in many details, of course. There was a little statue of Mao and Chiang Kai-Shek, half as big as a hand altogether, arm in arm, united in peace for a unified China, as they supposedly were for a few years during the war against Japanese aggression. Oh the brotherly love of dictators! Nauseating. Chiang let millions starve in Henan, and Mao let tens of millions starve, in addition to all the other great things. And here they are, melted into each other in porcelain. Nothing symbolizes the decades of needless suffering and strife for hundreds of millions of people more than these statues, and also the unwillingness of facing the past, facing contemporary history, facing the relevance of culture and especially literature for a truthful engagement with today's society. Yomi Braester's Witness Against History comes to mind. And now please forgive me if I add a few sentences in Chinese. 几天以前同一个博物馆毛泽东诗词朗诵会我也去了，因为我在北京也有几年在人民画报、今日中国、五洲传播出版社等等单位工作，所以对老翻译们当然很感兴趣。不过我还是相信每次提到老毛都会让人避开实际的老百姓生活和所有在中国实际的情况。甚至还避开文学、文化、历史等等严肃题目。因为老毛传说从来都是这样的用处，好让大家总动员，无论中共实际如何，只要总动员打败日本侵略和蒋介石不管多少人饿死的态度，用老毛传说总动员达到最后胜利解放天下一切都值得。是不是？那时候好像很多人这样想的，也不能怪他们。只是以后老毛的天下死了更多人，大跃进跟整个公元四十年代同样残忍。就是在介绍1961年和1962年写的诗他们提到大跃进没有人愿意说清楚是饿死了几千万人的人造灾难。他们也没有想到老毛在诗里面写得苍蝇死了没关系也许不是指的一些干部事后反对大跃进，也可能指老百姓死了、尤其是反对大跃进老百姓很残忍地打死了都没关系。虽然研究过大跃进的魏格林教授也是七十年代在中国，但那天朗诵会她不在，而欧普雷博士就是太客气，虽然老翻译自己其实很愿意检讨自己原来的信仰。魏格林教授翻译了冯骥才的小说，放在这次展览会出版的书里。故事真的不错，很值得一读。也许我说的那避开文学也有例外。严肃的来说，马克思思想其实在今天的世界还是很有道理，而且在穷人和被压迫的一些民族还是很明显的印度到现在都有《毛派〉游击队。只是在中国、柬埔寨等等地方因为已经过最极端的百万千万人死的残忍、文革等等，因此没那么多老百姓在七十年代以后深层地、长期地相信什么老毛。
