Forschungsschwerpunkt von Verena Resch sind enzymatische
Reaktionen zur
Synthese von Alkaloiden. So gelang es ihr, mit Hilfe eines
Enzyms aus dem
Kalifornischen Goldmohn, spezielle C-C-Verknüpfungen
herzustellen, die
bislang nur mit großem Aufwand und hohen Kosten synthetisiert
werden konnten. Klassische
chemische Synthesemethoden versagten überhaupt. Der neue
Reaktionsweg
ermöglicht (zunächst im Labor) eine vergleichsweise einfache
Produktion von
Alkaloiden, die pharmakologische Bedeutung haben, beispielsweise
krampflösend,
blutdrucksenkend, schmerzstillend oder muskelentspannend
wirken. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
