Liebe Kolleg:innen,

Beamline for Schools
Beamline for Schools 2024 is about to start!
Beamline for Schools is a physics competition for high-school students from all around the world inviting them to propose an experiment that they want to perform at a particle accelerator. The popular competition celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2024. Three winning teams will be selected, two of which will perform their experiments at CERN and one at DESY. There will be additional prizes for up to 40 selected teams (https://beamline-for-schools.web.cern.ch/bl4s-competition/prizes). All teams who preregister to the competition (https://beamlineforschools.cern/form/preregistration-2024) will have the possibility to follow several online events. In these online events, the teams will learn more about Beamline for Schools and how to prepare their experiment proposal. Preregistered teams will also be invited to virtual visits to CERN and DESY. The deadline to submit a proposal is 10 April 2024 at 23:59 CEST. Further information can be found in the official invitation letter (https://beamline-for-schools.web.cern.ch/sites/default/files/Invitation_BL4S_2024.pdf).

CERN-Solvay student camps
With the CERN-Solvay student camps, we offer 30 high-school students the opportunity to spend one week on CERN's campus as an international group, each participant coming from a different country. We are specifically looking to include a participant from Austria in each of the upcoming camps. We sincerely hope that your students will apply - they could very well be one of the lucky few to attend!

The camps feature an array of engaging activities, including:

  * Hands-on laboratory workshops in our new science center, Science Gateway
  * Visits of CERN's accelerators and detectors, such as ATLAS, CMS or the Antimatter Factory
  * Lectures and Q&A sessions with CERN scientists, offering research insights and career advice
  * Working in small groups for one day in a physics or engineering lab at CERN
  * Cultural exchange with like-minded students from all corners of the world.

Applications for the next two camps are open until 15 January 2024. Those camps will take place from 25 May - 1 June and from 5 - 12 October 2024. Attending the camp is free and we cover accommodation and meals. However, selected students must independently arrange and finance their travel to and from CERN. Funds are available to provide travel grants for a select number of students.

To be eligible, students must:

  * Be at least 16 years old when applying
  * Be enrolled in high-school when applying
  * Have a good knowledge of English
  * Have completed the online course of the CERN-Solvay Education Programme<https://cern.ch/solvay-course>.

To find out more and apply, visit our website: https://cern.ch/solvay-camp.

Students from the first edition of this camp have described it as "the best week of [their] life", an "unforgettable" experience which "inspired" and "amazed" them, and during which they made "friends for life". This could be the event which changes the career of your students!
