Für interessierte Lehrkräfte gibt es:
IYPT 2010 Visiting Teachers' Programme
This programme will enable teachers
* to watch physics fights,
* to discuss physics issues with jurors,
* to find out the main criteria for success in physics fights,
* to have contacts with the students and to find out the motives
for participation in a very challenging competition,
* to meet fellow teachers with interest in working with gifted
students,
* Participation in the social program (please see the application form)
* to try out for themselves IYPT problems of previous years, and
* to explore Vienna and some of its science institutions.
The LOC offers the following variants of the Visiting Teachers’ Programme:
* A) Participation during the whole IYPT. This variant is open
according to availability of hotel rooms and may be booked under the
same conditions as for non-official guests. The fee of 800 EUR covers
accommodation in a student guest house, meals and participation in the
excursions.
* B) Reduced sojourn: daily rate 115 EUR
* C) Single day participation may be of interest primarily to
Austrian, Czech and Slovak teachers, who will not require accommodation
and intend to participate on selected days. The fee of 40 EUR per day
will cover attendance of physics fights, participation in an IYPT
problem solving workshop (July 12, afternoon), participation in the
Science Vienna (Afternoon in Science) programme (July 13, afternoon) and
lunch together with students, jurors and other visitors on the booked
day(s).
For registration please write to:
Austrian participants: teachers at iypt.at
The IYPT problem solving workshop (July 12, afternoon) will introduce
teachers to some of the IYPT problems of previous years, especially to
those which might serve as models for project work in classrooms.
Advance registration is necessary. The workshop will be conducted with a
minimum of 3 participants and a maximum of 20. It will focus on the
physics content and on argumentation.
Besides the physics fights and excursions special highlights will be the
talks by Prof. Rudi Grimm at the opening ceremony and by Prof. Christian
Fabjan after the Tuesday afternoon visit to research institutions in
Vienna. Prof. Grimm does experiments at one of the coldest places in the
universe, i.e. his laboratory at Innsbruck University where he and his
co-workers investigate the behaviour of matter at the very lowest
temperatures. Prof. Fabjan will give an outlook on what to expect of
particle physics research within the next decade and will connect
accelerator physics with astrophysics.
Of course, the physics fights deserve particular attention. Visiting
teachers will be able to experience intense scientific debates about
explanations – and weaknesses thereof – of everyday phenomena.
