<div class="">Why to do things with words </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Language is at the heart of human culture, it is the
central capacity for knowledge and the creation of sociality.
Consequently, linguistics has the role of a bridging discipline
for the understanding of human activity in the world. Against this
backdrop, in his talk Christoph will introduce and discuss a
research program that starts from everyday experience with
language as a symbolic resource and practical tool for the
maintenance of a lifeworld – and the scientific study of it. By
harvesting ideas and approaches from cultural theory,
sociolinguistics and natural language processing, Christoph will
try to assemble many small answers to a very big question, that
is, why to do things with words.</div>
