<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:150%"><span style="font-family:"Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;color:#202020">Much has been said in recent months about yet another European crisis caused by the sudden massive flow of asylum seekers mainly from war-torn countries.
Across European political groups and parties as well as in the media there have been divergent interpretations of the situation: calls for solidarity towards people in need of international protection alternate with others for more borders’ controls. A presumed
‘Eastern’ vs ‘Western’ way of dealing with refugees has also been raised, where Central Eastern European countries have been seen as failing to stand up to their international obligations.<br>

This workshop questions certain schematic readings of the current refugee crisis and delves into a rigorous analysis of the way the political actors and the media across Europe have reported and/or debated over it.<br>
<br>
It brings together leading scholars working on migration-related discourses and practices to critically analyze and give recommendations for political action. While processes of ‘politicisation’ and ‘mediatisation’ have traditionally been approached separately
in political and media research, this symposium aims to bringing them together. The papers presented target the specific interplay between political and media discourses around the current refugee crisis and explore how former East vs West or South vs North
divisions in Europe are re-surfacing and how such discourses reflect national traditions among others.</span><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#202020"><br>
