Panel „Digitale Slawistik: 3. Treffen“

im Rahmen der 50. Österreichischen Linguistik-Tagung

vom 20. – 21. November 2026 an der Universität Salzburg


Das Panel ist eine Fortsetzung des Panels „Digitale Slawistik“, das 
bereits 2024 und 2025 im Rahmen der 48. und 49. ÖLT stattfand und 
Slawist*innen aus Belarus, Litauen, Polen, Tschechien, Deutschland sowie 
von österreichischen Universitäten zusammenbrachte. Die Tagungsbeiträge

Das Panel zielt darauf ab, Forschende zu vernetzen, die an der 
Schnittstelle zwischen Digital Humanities (inklusive Computerlinguistik) 
und Slawistik arbeiten. Im Fokus steht die Frage, wie aktuelle 
Entwicklungen im Bereich der Transformer-Modelle wie BERT oder der 
GPT-Familie sowie Fortschritte im Natural Language Processing (NLP) die 
linguistischen und philologischen Arbeitsweisen und Fragestellungen in 
der Slawistik beeinflussen und transformieren.

Dabei sind Beiträge zu neuen methodischen Ansätzen und empirischen 
Verfahren ebenso willkommen wie zu traditionellen Methoden (etwa der 
regelbasierten Lemmatisierung oder dem Wortart-Tagging), 
interdisziplinäre Arbeiten oder die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit den 
Möglichkeiten und Grenzen digitaler Arbeitsweisen. Mögliche Vortrags- 
und Diskussionsthemen in synchroner und diachroner Perspektive sind:


* Auf- und Ausbau von Korpora und Datenbanken für historische und 
moderne Sprachvarietäten

*Diastratische, diatopische, diachrone und areallinguistische 
Dokumentations- und Darstellungsformen

*Entwicklung von Toolkits und Workflows für die Digitalisierung und 
Annotation slawischen Sprachmaterials: POS-und morphologisches Tagging, 
Lemmatisierung, Abhängigkeitsanalyse

*Korpusbasierte und korpusgestützte Analyse

*Maschinelle Übersetzungen für slawische Sprachen

*Stylometrie, Klassifikation und Text-Networks-Analysis

*Verarbeitung historischer Dokumente: HTR und bildgebende Verfahren 
(Pre- und Postprocessing, Modelltraining)

*Benchmarks für slawische NLP

*Textkritik und digitale Edition

*Regelbasierte Ansätze und KI

*Grenzen und Desiderata

The 3rdDigital Slavic Studies Panel

At the 50thÖsterreichische Linguistik-Tagung

20-21stNovember 2026

The panel is a continuation of the panel Digital Slavic Studies, which 
took place in 2024 and 2025 as part of the 48th and 49thÖsterreichische 
Linguistik-Tagung and brought together scholars of Slavic languages from 
Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, as well as 
different Austrian universities, with proceedings published in Scripta & 
e-Scripta 2025 <https://e-scripta.eu/archives/year-2025/issue-25>and 
2026 <https://e-scripta.eu/archives/year-2026/issue-26>.

The panel aims to connect researchers working at the interface between 
digital humanities (including computational linguistics) and Slavic 
studies. The focus is on how current developments in transformer models 
such as BERT and the GPT family, as well as advances in natural language 
processing (NLP), are influencing and transforming linguistic and 
philological working methods and research questions in Slavic studies.

This panel seeks contributions on novel digital methods (especially 
transformer networks and LLM) as well as on traditional approaches (such 
as rule-based lemmatization or part-of-speech tagging) within Slavic 
Studies, on the interdisciplinary exploration and critical examination 
of the possibilities and limitations of digital methods. Among the 
possible topics are:

* Corpus and database building for historical and modern language varieties

* Digital documentation and representation of areal phenomena, as well 
as social, historical, and regional variation

* Development of toolkits for digitisation and tagging of Slavic 
languages: POS- and morphological tagging, lemmatisation, dependency parsing

* Corpus-based analysis

* Machine translation for Slavic languages

* Stylometry, classification and text network analysis

* OCR and processing of historical documents: pre-and post-processing, 
model training

* Text critique

* Benchmarks for Slavic NLP

* Rule-based approaches and AI

* Limits and desiderata
