Dear members of the PLING list,

Validity plays a key role in ensuring that research findings in
linguistics truly reflect what we aim to study and that they are robust
and replicable.

As part of my dissertation at the University of Vienna, I am extending
the VALID Checklist (www.validchecklist.com) — a tool developed to help
researchers plan and evaluate the validity of their studies — into an
interactive learning resource designed to support anyone who wants to
better understand and apply validity concepts in research and teaching.

To make this new tool as useful as possible, I am currently looking for
students and early career researchers (PhDs and Post Docs) to take part
in short focus group discussions about how we can best support learning
and reflection on research validity. In a later stage, I will also
conduct focus groups with lecturers teaching validity; for more
information on this, please feel free to contact me at
susanne.kerschbaumer at univie.ac.at.

If you are interested in joining, you can find more information and sign
up here:
Students: https://forms.gle/Zmo3p1NngMVjsw8H7
ERCs: https://forms.gle/sjyupA7oqtZQHWor9

No special knowledge is required to participate, and the focus groups
can be conducted in either English or German, depending on participants’
needs.

I’d be very happy to hear your perspectives on research validity!

Thank you and kind regards,
Susanne Kerschbaumer
