Dear colleagues,
I’ve just been asked to circulate information about the below event being held in Erlangen from 19-21 March 2025. May be of interest to any and all those working in corpus linguistics, especially the more qualitative end.

Best,
Mathew

*****************

Join us for the two-day Reading Concordances in the 21st Century (RC21) Project Symposium on 20 - 21 March 2025 and - if you're new to concordance analysis - for the hands-on Reading Concordances Training Day on 19 March 2025!

The RC21 Project

The Reading Concordances in the 21st Century (#RC21) project is a collaboration between the Chairs of Computational Corpus Linguistics and the Department of Digital Humanities at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. The project explores how users analyse and interpret concordance lines — patterns of language found in text corpora — across disciplines such as lexicography, language education, discourse analysis, and literary studies – and how to support the analysis with flexible algorithms and enhanced accountability For more information, visit our project website: 🔗 https://go.fau.de/1beah

The RC21 Project Symposium

During the RC21 Symposium we are lucky to have amazing guests and members of the project team presenting their work on methodology and applications of concordance analysis:

  * Empirical studies across diverse fields, including language learning, syntax, and discourse analysis.

  * Methodological discussions on systematic approaches to concordance reading and their implications for research.

  * Technical innovations, showcasing new algorithms and functions to make concordance analysis more flexible and effective.
On the second day (21 March), a poster session will take place where researchers (including MA students) have the opportunity to share their work on topics in corpus linguistics involving concordance reading.

The Reading Concordances Training Day

The Training Day is ideal for students and early-career researchers in linguistics, computational linguistics, computational social science, digital humanities, computer science, and related fields. The course introduces the fundamentals of concordance analysis using KWIC (Key Word In Context) displays, bridging qualitative and quantitative research in text analysis. No prior knowledge of corpus linguistics is required.

→ Registration for both the RC21 Symposium and the Training Day is free, but spaces are limited. Kindly register until 19 February 2025 to secure your place: 🔗 https://go.fau.de/1beaf
→ If you would like to present your poster, please send an abstract (max. 500 words) to dhss-team at fau.de<mailto:dhss-team at fau.de> until 31 January 2025. Please use the subject line "RC21 Poster".

The RC21 team is looking forward to welcoming you!
