Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite you to a talk by Daniel Hole (University of
Stuttgart) next Tuesday (abstract and title below).

Date/venue: May 21st, 15:00 - 16:30, HAUPTGEBÄUDE Universität Wien,
Universitätsring 1, 1010 Wien, Hörsaal 32

We are looking forward to seeing you at the talk,
Daniel Büring and Valerie Wurm

Title & abstract:

IP area adverbials with an attitude

In this talk, we will look at -- mostly aspectual -- adverbials that
systematically come in pairs in language after language; one of them
neutral, and the other one with an attitude. Examples are G. noch vs.
immer noch, or E. for a long time vs. forever. These doublings will not
just be compared across languages for the first time, I will also make a
somewhat surprising attempt at locating the attiduninal portion of
meaning (of one of the opposition members) which doesn't coincide with
their surface syntax in German or English; the attitudinal portions of
meaning take scope above T, wheres the overt syntax of these forms takes
place below T. Prime evidence for this move will come from Chinese, but
also from in-depth scrutinizing of the interaction of the attitudinal
variants with certain exclamative structures.
