The origins of Hasidic Yiddish - a public lecture by dr. Chaya Nove


CHAYA R. NOVE is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Linguistics at Brown University.

She has a Ph.D. in linguistics from the City University of New York. Her research interests include sociolinguistics, phonetics, language change, contact linguistics and bilingualism. Her primary research centers on variation and change in contemporary Hasidic Yiddish spoken in New York, of which she is a native speaker. Her accessible talk will explore the origins of Hasidic Yiddish using data from the Corpus of Spoken Yiddish in Europe (CSYE), which is based on Holocaust testimonies.
