CfP: Special Issueon “Perceptions, Reflections, and 
ConceptualizationsofWar and Peace in Children’sDrawings”, Journal 
“SocialInclusion”

Issuesofwar and 
peacehavecruciallybeenre-/positionedwithinthecenterofglobal politics, 
mediapublics, humanitarianaid, and individual lifeworldsbythewar on 
Ukraine. These issuesarenot new. Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, theDarfur, 
and Mali areonlysomeofthesignifiersofviolent 
conflictsthathaveplaguedtheworldforyears.

In almostall conflictsand wars, 
childrenareamongthegroupsmostaffectedbytheirpervasive consequences. 
Theyare, however, not onlypassivelysufferingvictimsofviolence, 
displacement, hunger, and existential hardship, but 
remain(sometimesmore, sometimesless) consciousactorsin a 
collectiveprocessofmeaning-making: Theyperceive, theyreflect, 
theyinterpret, theyconceptualize. An importantmedium 
ofthesediscursivenegotiationsaredrawings. 
Drawingsaregeneratedasmeansofreflectionsofwar and peacein 
spontaneousplayat home, in informal and formal educationalsettings, via 
pedagogicalinstructions, in therapeuticcontexts, and—aschild-sensitive 
and participatorymethod—forresearchendeavors. The 
systematicmethodologicalthinkingaboutand therecognizeduseofdrawingsin 
empiricalresearchprojects, nonetheless, still representa 
desideratewithinmanydisciplines. As an interdisciplinaryand 
inter-university groupwenowaimtobring togetherexcitinginnovative 
contributionsfocusingon children’sperceptions, reflections, and 
conceptualizationsofwar and peacefroma 
widerangeof(inter-/trans-)disciplinaryfields, theoreticalfoundations, 
method(olog)icalperspectives, and different regionsin thisthematicissue.
