Dear colleagues,
Professor Anders Holmberg (Newcastle University) will hold a guest lecture titled “The syntax of questions” (see the abstract below) on Thursday, 23 May 2019, at 14:15, to which you are cordially invited. The venue for this lecture is the Department of Linguistics, Seminarraum 3, Sensengasse 3a, 1OG.
Regards,
Dalina Kallulli

"The syntax of questions”
[The lecture] will be mainly about yes-no questions. I will propose analyses of the main types of yes-no questions found among the languages of the world (initial question particle, final question particle, second-position question particle, no question particle). The working hypothesis is that since yes-no questions have the same meaning in all languages, they have the same syntax in all languages. This hypothesis has to be modified, though.
