[pca] Recommended patches and PCA

Hi all.

We have been looking at PCA as a solution to our patching requirements and so far it seems to be exactly what we are looking for.

However I am a little confused about the way PCA deals with Recommended patches.

We have downloaded a recommended patch bundle from Oracle and the associated patchdiag.xref file. When we list the missing Recommended patches we see the following reported by PCA

#pca -l missingr

118712 23 < 24 R-- 438 SunOS 5.10: Sun XVR-100 Graphics Accelerator Patch

This suggests that patch 118712 version 23 needs to be updated with version 24.

However version 24 is not flagged as recommended by Oracle and is therefore not present in the recommended downloaded patch bundle. The reference to that patch in the associated patchdiag.xref looks like this.

118712|07|Oct/25/05| | |O| B|10|
118712|23|Mar/19/09|R| |O| |10|
118712|24|Aug/06/10| | | | |10|

As version 24 is reported by PCA as recommended we get errors as the patch is not included in the downloaded recommended bundle.

This seems to happen whenever a previously recommended patch has been flagged as obsolete.

I would appreciate any assistance/advice on where I am going wrong!

Regards and thanks

Jon
