This really seems to point at a problem with the DNS resolution setup on 
your site. What do you get from "nslookup getupdates.oracle.com" or 
"getent hosts getupdates.oracle.com"? Are /etc/resolv.conf and 
/etc/nsswitch.conf configured correctly?
