[pca] patch precedence between 121430-57 and 121428-LR

Gerard,

I would trust PCA's ordering.

I have compared the ordering of patches in 10_Recommend to PCA's ordering of the same list of patches. They differ greatly.

I think you are correct that in this case the order is not important.

My experience shows that Oracle does not always pay attenuation to details when creating/updating knowledge base entries.

Using LU and patching the PBE before starting are very good advice.

I am not using ZFS root nor zones - both have caused LU problems in the past.

Have a good day,
Glen Gunselman

Subject: [pca] patch precedence between 121430-57 and 121428-LR

hello all,
i'm tryng to install prerequisites patches before liveupgrade a S10u8
machine.
The oracle doc ID 1004881.1 recommends: "Apply the patches in the order
in which they are listed to the system's PBE" and the list is:
119254-LR Install and Patch Utilities Patch
121430-57 Live Upgrade patch
121428-LR SUNWluzone required patches

but with pca, the order is changed as followed:
fury-root% /etc/scripts/pca -r 121430-57 121428
Using /var/tmp/patchdiag.xref from Aug/22/11
Downloading README for 121428-15
Trying http://www2/cgi-bin/pca-proxy.cgi?
Done
Downloading README for 121430-57
Trying http://www2/cgi-bin/pca-proxy.cgi?
Done

i notice that patch 121428-15 seems to contain only one file:
/etc/lib/lu/plugins/lupi_zones

so perhaps, the order isn't very important in this case. But does
anybody else have seen this kind of problem ?

thanks in advance for help,

gerard
