[pca] OS CPU

No. We do not have problems using Oracle CPUs on solaris platform. We
always schedule separate maintenance windows for OS and oracle patches.
Since oracle releases CPUs for OS and Oracle at the same time, we could
combine maintenance windows if they are fully tested. We plan to pursue
it anyway.
Thanks

Hi Ying,
Each team is responsible for testing the CPU that they produce; we
produce the Solaris OS CPU, thus that is what we test.
Our team has lots of experience in Solaris System Test (which does
include some Oracle testing) and with SVR4-format patches (i.e. standard
Sun patches).
We would currently not have the bandwidth to take on additional testing
of the Oracle CPU, as this would require lots of additional
Oracle-specific knowledge and resources, which we do not currently have.
(Oracle CPUs are not even the same format as regular SVR4 patches.)
There is a separate test team that test the Oracle CPU's and as part of
that testing they should test on Solaris.
Have you had specific problems using the Oracle CPU's on Solaris
previously?

Thanks, Don. Another question, since oracle releases OS CPU at
the same time as Oracle CPU, do you think that the QC team would test
both CPUs on the same server? We are trying to schedule the down time
for both maintenances and try to figure out if we could combine them
together.

Hi Ying,
The CPU is not related to the patchdiag.xref file at all.
The CPU is simply a snapshot of the Recommended Patch Clusters
taken once a quarter, which contains patches that fix all publicly
announced Security issues (i.e. Oracle Security Alerts) for the Solaris
OS.
See http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/alerts.htm,
http://security.sfbay.sun.com/pad.html and
http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/critical-patch-updates/
cpujul2010.html and for further information.

I noticed that Oracle/SUN just released its first
Critical Patch Updates (CPU). I'm not sure which xref file it uses.
Does PCA have an option to download/patch CPU? Its README has update
date of 7/6, but the xref file on 7/6 that I downloaded has kernel patch
of 142900-14 instead of 142900-13.
Thanks.
Ying
