Just using the V890 as an example, there are several different patch 
numbers and revisions. The highest patch number was not always the 
latest! Then there were back-plane firmware and other patches which were 
installed in 'odd' or 'non-standard' non-standard ways.

It was almost always a case of having to look at README files and work 
out exactly what was required for these types of patches.
