Mostly it should be ok, but you need to be careful if a patch delivers new
functionality that a later patch relies on. I got caught out with a kernel
patch last year (forget the exact version) and wound up with as system
thast wouldn't boot. Learned vey quickly about booting from cd and using
patchrm -R to back out the last few patches :)

And if it doesn't work you have the old BE to boot from while you repair
the new one. Assuming that it is going to work more often that it fails
then you will stiff be in front.
