[pca] PCA & LiveUpgrade questions and comments

Hello,

Somehow I just learned about LiveUpgrade.  I am hoping that will make my patching life easier and faster!

Some questions and comments:

I think the info on the PCA website about LiveUpgrade may need updating:

LIVE UPGRADE

pca can be used in combination with Live Upgrade to analyze or install patches in an inactive boot environment. Use lumount to mount the BE and pca's --root=DIR option to set the alternative root directory:

  lumount BE_name
  pca --rootdir=BE_name --install
  luumount BE_name
When you're done patching, activate the new BE and reboot with init 6.

I believe the correct pca option is --root ?

Also, I found that the lumount stuff above didn't work for me, what worked better was to explicitly lumount to a specific directory/mount point, and then pass that mount point into pca, eg

	lumount BE_name /mnt/upgrade
	pca --root=/mnt/upgrade --install

Finally, my question:

Given that I am using the above to patch an alternate boot environment (ABE), and given that ABE is not active/running, is it safe to just go ahead and apply all the patches?
That is, can I not worry about the "apply as single user and reboot afterwards" patches, and just go ahead and install those patches just like all the other patches?

The idea is that after I finish patching the new ABE, I will make it the default/active BE, reboot, and I will be running a fully patched OS.

Comments/thoughts?
