This is the error I got when I ran bash-3.00# ./pca -V -L

That's not an error message. The default for pca when run without any
special option is to list all missing patches, so that's what it's
telling you here.
Maybe your real question is why there are no patches shown? Either you have all
patches installed which apply to your system, or there is a problem with the
pkginfo command. Do you get reasonable output from "pkginfo -x" (ie.
hundreds of lines with package names)?
You can always send me (not to the list) output from:
uname -a > uname.out
showrev -p > showrev.out
pkginfo -x > pkginfo.out
for further diagnostics.
