Hi Martin ,
      I have attached a copy of the file in question .
In the meantime I will have a look myself and see how many columns only
have 1 character .

Ray,

I've never had an EIS DVD in my hands, but I know of others who used its
contents with pca, e.g.: http://www.jessies.org/~car/projects/mkpcadir/

The problem is not a long line, but the 7th column which only consists
of one character instead of two. The line should look like this:

102228|04|Nov/20/96| | |O|  |Unbundled|sparc;||OBSOLETED by 104121
                           ^^

Compare with any line in the patchdiag.xref file you get from SunSolve.
This column is used both for the bad (B) and the y2k (Y) flag.

Do all lines in the xref file on the EIS DVD look like that (you can
send me a copy), and did you use it unmodified?

Martin.
