| per-patch property; the README of each patch will tell you whether it is
| to be installed in single user mode or not. Quite often, patches which
| require a reboot also are recommended to be installed in single user
| mode, and vice versa.

i think this luxury may be ending.
Recent patch(es?) definitely had issues in multi-user mode
(usually because of NFS and/or lofs mounts). Too early to
tell whether these were odd balls, but i doubt it.
