[pca] Install in Single User Mode?

I'm new to pca usage. I've been updating our Solaris machines with
Sun's Recommended Patch Clusters but I'd like to use pca but have a
few unanswered questions about pca usage.
First, Sun "strongly" recommends that the patch clusters be installed
in single-user mode. Is it recommended to install the patches with pca
in single-user mode? At least the ones that require a reboot to
finish? Or is it safe to install them in multi-user mode but with just
all the applications using the system turned off?
Is using pca to install all of the recommended and security patches
(pca -i missingrs) equivalent to installing a patch cluster?
Is installing the patches with pca any faster than installing the
patches with the patch cluster? The last patch cluster I installed
took about 3 hours. ouch!
Thanks for any comments/suggestions.
