You can use vmksdpart from the Sun Blueprint to make
slices for the volumes. These can than be mounted
directly when you boot without Veritas.

In ancient versions of the Veritas Volume Manager you
must have had a rootdg, either as encapsulated boot
disk, extra disk or as a rootdg-on-a-slice. This need
has gone away somewhere around version 3.5 IIRC. You
no longer need a rootdg.

With SVM ;-) And BTW: I would recommend liveupgrade
instead of split-mirror if your disk is large enough.
