als Symbol einer Person, Personengruppe oder Institution wichtigen Identifikationscharakter. Die Entstehung des ältesten Siegels der Stadt reicht in die Anfänge Wiens zurück. Damit zählt es zu den frühesten Beispielen europäischer Stadtsiegel. Bereits im Mittelalter
differenzierte sich der städtische Siegelgebrauch aus. Verschiedene Rechtsgeschäfte erforderten unterschiedliche Siegeltypen. Daneben besaßen städtische Einrichtungen und Ämter eigene Siegel. Der Vortrag beschäftigt sich nicht nur mit der Entwicklung der städtischen
Siegel bis heute, sondern auch mit ihrem Gebrauch und ihrer historischen Erforschung. Vergleiche und hilfswissenschaftliche Aspekte runden die Darstellung ab.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Verwendung behandelt. Im Themenschwerpunkt werden für jeden einzelnen Bezirk Geschichte und Zusammensetzung seines Wappens erläutert. Eine interaktive Karte zeigt den Gebrauch dieser städtischen Symbole im öffentlichen Raum, eine weitere setzt sich mit der
Verwendung von Wappen auf Grenzsteinen im Wiener Raum auseinander.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
