<strong>Site Manager des Kuratoriums Pfahlbauten in Oberösterreich</strong> tätig. Der Vortrag beleuchtet neueste Erkenntnisse und Forschungen zu alten Seeufersiedlungen. Dazu zählen insbesondere erste Ergebnisse der

<p>Der Fundort des bekanntesten und bisher <strong>größten frühmittelalterlichen Gräberfeldes der Steiermark</strong> liegt im „Steierischen Salzkammergut“, eingebettet in den Kalkhochalpen in einem inneralpinen Seitental des Ennstals. Politisch ist Krungl
eine Katastralgemeinde der MG Bad Mitterndorf (GKZ 61226), politischer Bezirk Liezen im Nordwesten der Steiermark.
<br>
Die Zahl der seit dem 19. Jahrhundert ausgegrabenen und bekannten Gräber beträgt fast 300, das Gräberfeld ist aber noch nicht vollständig ausgegraben. In Krungl fehlen archäologische Indizien für eine Kirche, die mit dem Gräberfeld in Verbindung stehen könnte.
Wir haben aber den im Ostalpenraum seltenen Fall eines <strong>durchgehend vom achten bis zum zehnten Jahrhundert</strong> belegten Gräberfeldes vor uns, die Belegung dauert ungebrochen durch die historischen Ereignisse an. Die zugehörige(n) Siedlung(en) konnte(n)
bis heute noch nicht lokalisiert werden.<br>
<strong>Karantanien</strong>, das sich im 7./8. Jh. einige Zeit<strong> zwischen den Baiern und Awaren</strong> eigenständig halten konnte, muß über wirtschaftliche Grundlagen verfügt haben. Diese setzten eine
<strong>Rohstoffbasis</strong> voraus. <strong>Salz</strong> ist ein lebensnotwendiges Bergbauprodukt, archäologisch aber kaum nachzuweisen. Die urkundliche Überlieferung enthält einige Nachrichten über
<strong>Solequellen</strong> und deren Nutzung im Frühmittelalter. Karantanien entfaltete sich auf antikem Kulturboden, Reste der
<strong>römischen Verkehrsinfrastruktur</strong> waren zumindest zum Teil noch vorhanden. Betrachten wir die Verbreitungskarte, die immer nur ein Ausschnitt und ein Abbild des Forschungsstandes sein kann, so fällt die Häufung der frühmittelalterlichen Fundstellen
in der Gegend der Pürgg im heutigen Bezirk Liezen auf. <br>
Die <strong>Sicherung der Straße um das Bergmassiv des Grimming Richtung Pürgg</strong> gehörte zu den Aufgaben der im Mitterndorfer Becken Siedelnden. Möglicherweise können wir hier ein Herrschaftsgebiet an der Peripherie Karantaniens fassen, das sich im Ennstal
zwischen Pürgg und Lassing befand, sich vielleicht auch noch hinter den Grimming bis in die Gegend von Altaussee erstreckte.<o:p></o:p></p>
