Heute schreibt, erzählt und zeigt eine Vielzahl von Medien und Einrichtungen mit unterschiedlichen Mitteln und Zielsetzungen historische Inhalte. Ein großes Engagement im Bereich der jüngeren Geschichte erklärt sich u. a. daraus, dass dem Publikum frühere Jahrhunderte anonym und fremd erscheinen können und diese in keinem offensichtlichen Verhältnis zur eigenen, heutigen Wirklichkeit stehen. Zeitgeschichte dagegen kann ein prägender Faktor persönlicher (Familien-)Geschichte und als solcher kontrovers besetzt und emotional aufgeladen sein. Sie ist als Gegenstand „heiß“, weil das, was heute zeithistorisch relevant sein muss/kann, nicht abschließend ausverhandelt ist. Sie ist im heutigen Stadtraum oder Alltag gegenwärtig und in ihren Objekten und Medien vertraut. <br><br>Vor diesem Hintergrund begeben wir uns auf eine fünftägige Expedition durch Berlin, eine Stadt mit scheinbar zahllosen Museen, Ausstellungen und Erinnerungsorten zur NS- und DDR-Geschichte. Gemeinsam mit Expertinnen/Experten aus Museen, Universitäten und Medien diskutieren wir, wer an diesen Orten wodurch legitimiert, welche Geschichten erzählt. Wir analysieren, welche gesellschaftlichen Funktionen einzelne Einrichtungen wahrnehmen und an wen sie ihre Angebote richten. Wir vergleichen inhaltliche und gestalterische Konzepte und besprechen das Potenzial und die Herausforderungen zeithistorischer Medien wie Fotografie, Film oder Berichte von Zeitzeuginnen/Zeitzeugen. Weil diktatorische Regime, Gewalt und Krieg das 20.
