Rhetorenschulen der Spätantike waren auch die Handbücher und
Beispielsammlungen (v.a. Libanios und Aphthonios) zu den
rhetorischen Anfängerübungen, den Progymnasmata, zunächst
wesentlich geprägt. Ihres zentralen kulturell-erzieherischen
Stellenwertes wegen vollzog sich im Laufe der byzantinischen
Epoche deren graduelle Anpassung an ein christliches
Weltbild durch Integration christlicher Motive, deren
wichtigste Stationen der Vortrag nachzuzeichnen versucht. Am
Ende wird ein Ausblick auf die Progymnasmata-Lehrbücher der
frühen Neuzeit und den konfessionell-polemischen Einsatz
christlicher Musterbeispiele im Glaubenskampf der
Reformationszeit stehen.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
