Es gilt, anhand der gegenwärtig möglichen Erkenntnisse, von Erwartung ebenso geprägt wie von Erfahrung, die richtigen Entscheidungen für die Zukunft zu treffen. Vorhersagen sind oft nichts als Scharlatanerie; das gegenwärtige verantwortungsbewusste - und soziale - Reflektieren über mögliche Szenarios, kollektive Handlungsweisen und Ziele ist hingegen schlicht eine Notwendigkeit. Die Geschichtswissenschaften bieten einen enormen Fundus an Erfahrungswerten, die dafür nutzbar gemacht werden können. Entsprechend befragt, können sie zu relevanten Empfehlungen für zukünftige Kurse führen.
