The British Library houses one of the most important collections of Greek papyri in the world, comprising unique fragments of Greek classical literature, early biblical and Christian fragments as well as various documentary texts. As Greek Papyri Cataloguer and Researcher, you will use your specialist knowledge to catalogue the collection, which has recently been digitised. You will also use innovative and traditional ways of interpreting and promoting these collections through online resources and engagement with specialist and non-specialist audiences.
With a post-graduate degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject, you will have strong research experience using Greek papyri and a personal area of expertise relevant to the British Library’s collection. A specialist knowledge of Greek papyrology and strong knowledge of Ancient Greek and Latin, excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and the ability to promote the collections to a wide range of audiences are essential.
In return we offer a competitive salary and a number of excellent benefits. Our pension scheme is one of the most valuable benefits we offer, as our staff can become members of the Alpha Pension Scheme where the Library contributes 20.9%. Another significant benefit the Library provides is the provision of a flexible working hours scheme which could allow you to work your hours flexibly over the week and to take up to 5 days flexi leave in a 3 month period. This is on top of 25 days holiday from entry and public and privilege holidays.
