Dear visitors of the DissKoll (Dissertantenkolloquium),

On June 4, 2009, the DissKoll will have its third talk in spring 2009.
 Johannes Wilms (University of Vienna, Faculty of Physics) will talk
about “The classical 2D Ising model, matchgates, and mutual
information”.

Abstract: The classical 2D Ising model is one of the standard models
of statistical physics and has been studied extensively, but there is
still a lot to discover. I will first show how it is considered
"exactly solvable", using the FKT theorem, Pfaffians, and the
relatively new concepts of matchgates and holographic algorithms.
Mutual information and area laws, in particular in the vicinity of the
phase transition, can then be studied.

Am Donnerstag den 4. Juni 2009 findet der dritte Vortrag im Rahmen des
DissKoll in diesem Semester statt. Johannes Wilms (Universität Wien,
