Liebe Besucherinnen und Besucher des Dissertantenkolloquiums!

Am Donnerstag den 13. Dezember findet der nächste Vortrag im Rahmen  
des Dissertantenkolloquiums in diesem Semester statt. Roza Aceska  
spricht über "Weighted modulation spaces and functions of variable  
bandwidth".

Zusammenfassung: In Anwendungen wie Signalverarbeitung ist es oft  
angebracht mit Funktionen variabler Bandbreite zu arbeiten anstatt  
solche mit fester Bandbreite zu benutzen. Verschiedene natürliche  
Zugänge zum Konzept der variablen Bandbreite sind mathematisch  
schlecht zu beschreiben. In einer mathematischen Sichtweise können wir  
Funktionen variabler Bandbreite als Elemente von gewichteten  
Modulationsräumen. In diesem Vortrag werden wir die Vorteile dieses  
Zugangs darlegen und mit Hilfe von Zeit-Frequenz-Methoden verschiedene  
nützliche Charakterisierungen geben.

Dear visitors of the Dissertantenkolloquium,

The next talk at the Dissertantenkolloquium will be on Thursday the  
13th of December. Roza Aceska will be talking on "Weighted modulation  
spaces and functions of variable bandwidth".

Abstract: In applications such as signal processing, it is more  
appropriate to work with functions of variable bandwidth instead of  
band-limited functions. However, various natural approaches to the  
concept of variable bandwidth are not well-defined. From a  
mathematical point of view, we can describe the functions of variable  
bandwidth as elements of weighted modulation spaces. In the  
presentation we explore the benefits of this approach and, using time- 
frequency methods, we give several useful characterizations.
